GREAT TIT (Parus major)

Marsh Tit by Sandra Palme

This beautiful bird, the largest member of the tit family can be found in towns but more often in garden with trees or bordering on parkland or woodland. Because GREAT TITS can be in competition for nest boxes with SPARROWS, the nest entrance hole should be smaller for the GREAT TIT ie 28m diameter.
The box should be fixed on a tree trunk 3 to 5 meters high facing away from prevailing winds, ie facing towards the north through easterly direction. As usual we recommend that you leave the nest undisturbed until it is cleaned out in November.
