Some species of box nesting birds are very territorial and will guard their patch to the death. The Robin and the Blue Tit are good examples. By contrast, other species are very gregarious and happy to rear their young in nest boxes adjacent to each other. In Britain the House Sparrow and the Starling are the prime example of this sociability. The only difference that you must specify is the entrance hole diameter in relation to which of two birds you wish to attract to your garden.

Place the colony boxes on a wall at 2.5 meters high and away from any window apertures. Choose the shaded side of the building facing north or east away from the prevailing southerly and westerly winds and direct sunlight.
